This is a 1:18 scale diecast replica model of the Ford Mustang GT as practiced for the 1984 James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst driven by Dick Johnson and John French.
The Ford Mustang GT holds a unique place in Australian touring car history, thanks to its connection with legendary driver Dick Johnson.
In 1984 Johnson and his backer Ross Palmer of Palmer Tube Mills imported a pair of Zakspeed-built Mustangs from Germany to compete under Group A regulations in Australia in 1985.
At the 1984 James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst, Johnson entered his regular Group C Ford XE Falcon and one of the new Mustangs.
Johnson and co-driver John French started fourth on the grid with the Falcon and the underpowered Mustang qualified 48th, though was withdrawn before race day to allow the team to focus on its Falcon.
The unique white livery is a real eye-catcher and a car from Johnson's amazing racing career that indeed has been overlooked - until now!
This 1:18 diecast replica represents this significant piece of DJR history, representing a transitional period as Australian touring car racing embraced International Group A regulations.
It is scheduled to be produced in the final quarter of 2025 by Classic Carlectables and is limited to just 750 units.
