Following a strong endurance campaign that included a podium finish at the Sandown 500, Supercheap Auto Racing's Chaz Mostert and co-driver Steve Owen capped off a consistent and determined 2017 Pirtek Enduro Cup campaign by claiming the coveted endurance crown. The pair delivered standout performances across the three endurance events, highlighted by a commanding victory from pole position in Race 21 on the streets of Surfers Paradise during the Vodafone Gold Coast 600. Combined with a seventh-place finish in the weekend’s second race, the result was enough to secure the Pirtek Enduro Cup title.
Behind the wheel of the #55 Ford FGX Falcon dressed in the unmistakable Supercheap Auto colours, Mostert and Owen demonstrated exceptional speed, consistency and teamwork throughout the endurance season. Their Gold Coast victory was particularly significant, with Mostert expertly converting pole position into a race win on one of the most challenging circuits on the Supercars calendar, while Owen once again proved why he was regarded as one of the category’s most reliable and accomplished endurance co-drivers.
The achievement marked a milestone moment in Supercars history, as Mostert and Owen became the first Ford pairing to win the Pirtek Enduro Cup since the award’s introduction in 2013. It was also a memorable result for Prodrive Racing Australia, with the team securing first and third in the Enduro Cup standings, as teammates Cam Waters and Richie Stanaway completed a remarkable campaign to finish third overall. The success further cemented the legacy of the #55 Supercheap Auto Falcon and remains one of the numerous impressive endurance achievements of Mostert’s career.
