At the 1973 Hardie-Ferodo 1000, the McLeod Ford XA GT Hardtop Falcon, driven by John Goss and Kevin Bartlett, proved to be the quickest car on the mountain. Goss claimed pole position with a blistering 2m33.4s lap and went on to set the fastest lap of the race on lap 2, breaking the lap record.
The pair were in a commanding position until disaster struck. Goss was involved in an incident at The Cutting. With no way to avoid contact with a stray Torana, the Falcon sustained damage to its front guard and radiator, eventually forcing retirement. Goss would avenge this DNF with victory in 1974.
One unique detail makes this car stand out in Bathurst history – its front spoiler. Homologated for XA GTs in August 1973, the McLeod Ford Hardtop was the only Falcon fitted with one for the 1973 race, adding to its legendary status.
This fully opening diecast model captures every detail of this classic 1970s Bathurst challenger. Featuring detailed steering wheel and dash, full instrumentation, unique dash-top gauge, roll cage, detailed door trims with chrome door handles, mirror adjusters, door locks and window winders. The engine bay including the Motorcraft battery and radiator with their accurate decals are also reproduced.
