Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly cemented their names in the record books as the winners, but the race is mostly remembered for the action that happened during the race.
Depicting Craig Lowndes' smashed windscreen after colliding with the errant wheel of Paul Dumbrell, the infamous balaclava incident with Marcos Ambrose, and most famously the crash at the Cutting which saw 11 cars in the pile up and Marcos Ambrose and Greg Murphy discussing who was at fault toe-to-toe on the circuit live on television.
Holden celebrated a historic seventh consecutive Bathurst win, with Mark Skaife winning his fifth 1000, and Todd Kelly sealing his first Great Race victory on his birthday.
