A day of domination for Ford at the mountain
The 2008 race was a significant Bathurst 1000 for Ford. The Blue Oval teams and drivers delivered a dominant performance, while its Holden rivals faced various setbacks such as breakdowns, crashes, and lack of speed.
The Clayton juggernaut of the Holden Racing Team and HSV Dealer Team experienced a forgettable weekend with Paul Radisich out of the race after a practice crash, and the Mark Skaife/Garth Tander car with clutch issues, a penalty and a brush with the wall.
Despite these challenges, the Tasman Motorsport Commodore driven by Greg Murphy and Jason Richards got with 2.49 seconds of the victorious combination of Lowndes and Whincup. This was despite the Murphy/Richards and Lowndes/Whincup cars making contact on Lap 1.
Lowndes and Whincup's winning secret was their impressive pace and fuel management, which allowed them to extend their pit stop fuel range longer than most other competitors. With a strong formula and skilled driving, they secured a comfortable victory, marking a hat-trick of wins for the pair on the Mountain.
