The Seven Sport Magic Moments of Motorsport DVD Series continues to bring to life a wide range of glorious Australian motorsport history from the vault and take fans down memory lane.
The latest release is the full race of the 1982 James Hardie 1000 at Bathurst, available here from the V8 Sleuth Online Store hosted by the V8 Sleuth himself, Aaron Noonan - and with over seven hours of footage it's a double DVD delight!
This race was a real Bathurst classic.
The partnership of Peter Brock and Larry Perkins scored three consecutive James Hardie 1000 wins at Bathurst in the early to mid 1980s, becoming the first duo in the race’s history to achieve the feat.
A new combination for 1982, Brock and Perkins were almost unstoppable in their new ‘SS’ model Commodore and led home a clean sweep of the podium positions by Holden drivers.
The win was Brock’s sixth victory in the famous Bathurst race and the first of an eventual six for former Formula 1 driver Perkins.
It was also a history-making day in motorsport television broadcasting in Australia and the duo’s number 05 Holden Commodore became the first to win Bathurst while carrying an in-car camera.
This was the golden era of Bathurst with the locally developed Group C regulations in full swing and Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons battling with the invading Mazda, BMW and Nissan challengers.
In the minds of many, this was the peak period of the annual October touring car classic.
It was a history-making weekend too as pole-sitter Allan Grice became the first driver to lap Bathurst in a touring car at an average speed of more than 100 miles per hour.
For the first time we’ve released the entire race day telecast as it was shown on 7 Sport – it’s a race for all motorsport enthusiasts to enjoy!
